Watertown was one of the first cities in Wisconsin to complete a comprehensive master plan as set forth by state requirements. It has served us well as we plan for all kinds of growth and change. In addition, TIF districts have also been used to enhance business development in various parts of the city.

The city has established a third industrial park on West Road on the city’s western edge. Within a few years the new highway 26 bypass will bring 4 lanes of traffic to the city and resolve in-town traffic snarls along the current highway 26 roadbed.

Watertown also enjoys the services of Wisconsin Aviation at Watertown Municipal Airport. The airport is home for over 90 privately-owned planes. The facility has two paved runways, the longest of which is 4430 feet with a width of 75 feet. The Incubator Facility, owned and operated by the Watertown Promotive Corp., ( a subsidiary of the Chamber of Commerce) offers space to companies in start-up mode or those who are in need of extra space but are not yet ready to expand their facilities. Reasonable rates and flexible terms help to foster business growth. The Rock River continues to be a resource for us as it was to the first white settlers who came here in 1836. One company still creates electricity from a dam in our downtown but more importantly, we are prepared to see the river corridor play host to the next wave of downtown and center city economic development with an expansion of our River Walk area and nearby retail development. Through proactive planning, we are ready to find new uses for existing sites as well as encouraging new construction. Watertown residents have a strong work ethic and easily find work in all sectors of the economy. They enjoy safe, clean work environments and above average pay scales. All of this activity helps to attract new residents to the community, and that in turn helps to fill the needs of local employers.
