The Watertown Promotive Corporation is a separate organization from the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce. It maintains it's own records and is privately owned by its shareholders. It has worked closely with the Chamber for many years. The Chamber Exec serves as secretary for the organization.

The Promotive Corporation was organized by a group of local businessmen as a financial response to local industry which was threatened in the years immediately following the Second World War. By pooling their resources the founders of the Corp. were able to provide a low cost, local loan program to help factories retool and compete.

For many years members of the Promotive Corp. acted in an economic development role for the community. The board members actively sought out new industry for the community.

In more recent years the chamber office and the mayors office became initial points of contact for companies looking to expand in Watertown as well as inquiries placed through the Department of Commerce. Economic Development took on many different aspects of business activity. In the late 1980's the Promotive Corp. created an industrial incubator facility which was constructed in the industrial park on Milford Street.

Since that time the group has focused on start-up companies by providing space at an affordable price.
