The Watertown Tourism Council was organized as a promotional tool for the community after the enactment of a city room tax in 1997. It was placed under the umbrella of chamber operations for accounting purposes. It also fits nicely with the natural flow of tourism information which occurs in a chamber setting.
The Watertown Tourism Council has its own bylaws and budget which are approved by the Chamber Board of Directors. At no time are Tourism funds co-mingled with Chamber funds.
Promoting Watertown as a tourism destination takes on many forms of communication and activity. People serving on the tourism council are continually looking at new and creative ways to use the funds generated by the room tax to generate more tourism activity.
