AAUW Hosts Badger Talk - Dr. Jessica Calarco
Thursday, April 24, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 24, 6:30 PM. AAUW will be hosting a UW-sponsored Badger Talks presentation in the Community Room of the Watertown Public Library. Dr. Jessica Calarco will present “Other Countries Have Social Safety Nets; US Has Women.”
Dr. Calarco is an Associate Professor of Sociology at UW-Madison and a leading expert on families, schools, and inequalities in family life and education. She is also an award-winning teacher and a contributor to The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Washington Post.
Dr. Calarco will share details from her latest book, "Holding It Together: How Women Became America’s Safety Net," where she examines how our country's systemic issues exploit women and negatively affect everyone's quality of life. But it also provides plenty of research to point us in a new, more equitable direction.
Badger Talks is a program that connects UW faculty with hundreds of different disciplines with communities throughout the state.
This presentation is free and open to the public. PBS Wisconsin will also be on hand to film the event for future programming.
