Watertown Players Announce Auditions

The Watertown Players are excited to announce open auditions for the 2025 Youth Theatre Outreach show
“You Can’t Take It With You” written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. Auditions will be held at
The Watertown Players Theater in The Market, 210 S. Water St, Watertown, on Saturday, June 21, from
10 am until noon. No prior acting experience or preparation for the audition is necessary. The show will
be performed August 15-17, 2025, in cooperation with Old Time Radio Researchers.

“You Can’t Take It With You” is a romantic comedy/farce that tells the story of the Sycamores, a large and
extended family of charming eccentrics. Alice is one of the daughters in the family, who loves her family
very much but is embarrassed by their idiosyncrasies. When she and her boss Tony, a young business
man, fall in love she fears that their two families –so unlike each other-- will never come together. When
the families meet, fireworks and comedy explodes!

The Watertown Players Youth Theater is open to young adults aged 11 -21. No former acting experience is
needed to perform in the show and there is no cost to participate in the show.

This year’s show is unique because it will be presented as a Staged Radio production, which means the
performers will be reading from scripts, but will also be in costume and be making entrances and exits as
they would in a non-radio version of the show. This is a great show for newcomers to the stage as well as
performers with some experience. There are a wide variety of characters, from charming family members
to a Russian dance teacher, his friend the Grand Duchess and wise cracking G-men. No memorization will
be needed for the show and the rehearsal schedule will be flexible.

There are roles for 12 males, 5 females and 10 of any gender. In a Staged Radio Production, it is common
to have a performer play more than one role if needed. For this show we are looking for a cast of between
12 and 30 performers. In addition to performers, there will also be a role for a sound effects technician
who will be onstage creating the sounds of the show that include a typewriter, and doors opening and
closing to name a few.

You Can’t Take It With You” is being directed by Annette Weirick, assisted by Kara Jorgensen. Juanita
Edington is the producer. Jim Steffl, and Blaine Landowski will be providing technical support. For
