Ever wanted to say, “Bah, Humbug!”, or “God Bless Us, Everyone!”?
The Watertown Players are pleased to announce auditions for “A Christmas Carol” written by Charles Dickens. This
Christmas classic will be performed as a staged reading radio show at The Watertown Players Theater, 210 S Water St (in
the Market), Watertown, on December 12-14 with shows at 7:00PM on Friday and Saturday as well as 2 matinees –

manager & assistant director. Any questions regarding the audition or the show itself should be emailed to the director
at lisa@watertownplayers.org.
With a staged reading “radio show” no memorization is required. Actors will use scripts on stage to recreate a radio
station feel in the late 1930’s. Auditions will be held at the theater on Saturday, November 8 from 9:00-11:00 am, and it
is preferred that auditioners arrive at 8:45 and stay until dismissed. No prior acting experience is required. No special
preparation is required and auditioners will be asked to read from the script. To sign up for auditions, please go to
https://signup.com/go/WfebCKG. Sign-up for auditions is encouraged but not required, and walk-ins are welcome! If
you are unable to audition on November 8, please contact the director at the above email address to arrange a date and
time before November 8.
“A Christmas Carol” is Charles Dickens’ classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser in 19th century London who is visited
by the ghosts of his former business partner and three spirits that through the magic of Christmas, transform Scrooge
into a kinder man. This production will be based on the Campbell Playhouse radio show production from December 23,
1938 that was produced by the great Orson Welles. There are many roles available. All the classic Dickens characters –
Scrooge, Marley, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, Ghosts, Fezziwig and more – so many to choose from – with ages from 8 to 80!
The ages are a guideline and will in no way influence decisions for the right people for the roles. There are several roles
for children and teens. In addition, depending on how many audition, many actors will be cast in multiple roles, as was
typical in traditional radio programs. Rehearsals will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings at the
theater. Performing a staged reading is an excellent way to dip a toe into Community Theatre. With no memorization
required and a shortened rehearsal schedule, it provides an opportunity to experience the wonderful feeling of local
theatre AND get into the Christmas spirit as well! Please contact the Director, Lisa Steffl, lisa@watertownplayers.org
with any questions.
