Watertown Players Announce Auditions

The Watertown Players are pleased to announce auditions for the musical, Don’t Hug Me, We’re Family,
book and lyrics by Phil Olson, and music by Phil Olson.  The show is being produced by special
arrangement with Concord Theatricals/Samuel French and will be performed at The Watertown Players
Theater, 210 S Water St. (in the Market), Watertown, on March 13-15, and March 20-22, 2026. The
show is being directed by Juanita Edington, with Jennie Ortega serving as Producer.  Any questions
about auditions or the show should be emailed to Edington at jaemusiclover@gmail.com.

Auditions will be held at the theater, 210 S. Water St., Watertown, WI 53094 on Saturday, January 3,
2026, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon. Those wishing to audition must sign up in advance at this link:
https://bit.ly/4oNDsRq Please print a copy of the audition form, available under the “Director
Resources” tab of our website, www.watertownplayers.org, and bring the completed form with you to
auditions. Be sure to list expected conflicts on your audition form to aid in scheduling. All roles include
singing and minimal dancing. Those auditioning will be asked to sing a short song of your choice (a
pianist will not be available) and to present cold readings from the script. There are roles for three adult
women and four adult men.  There will also be two men’s and one woman’s voice-over only roles that
may be doubled by the regular cast actors. "Minnesotan" accents are required for five of the characters
and a “Brooklyn Italian” accent is required for two of the characters. Rehearsals will generally be held on
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings at the theater, however there will need to be two Saturday
rehearsals in January, and some flexibility of days in the schedule.

After a twelve-year hiatus between performing Don’t Hug Me, A Don’t Hug Me Christmas Carol (twice)
and Don’t Hug Me, County Fair in various locations around Watertown, we resumed the series in 2024 in
our current location. Following the 2024 performances of Don't Hug Me, I'm Pregnant, and the 2025
performances of Don’t Hug Me, We’re Married, we will bring the Olson brothers' Don't Hug Me series to
its conclusion.  Don't Hug Me, We're Family takes place in a small north woods bar and radio station, in
Bunyan Bay, Minnesota. Gunner, now the host of a radio show devoted entirely to ice fishing, loses his
only advertiser while his wife, a popular host of a book show has all the advertisers, putting the
competitive couple once again, at odds. Their marital problems are compounded when two fish-out of-
water Brooklyn Italians come to the rural Minnesota town, buy the radio station, and turn everything
upside down.

The Watertown Players is Watertown’s oldest theatre group.  Upcoming productions include an exciting
new endeavor, an 8 X 10 Play Festival (8 10-minute plays, performed consecutively, for a full length
entertainment experience on January 16 and 17 and FBC Drama Troupe presenting Gladys Aylward
Missionary to China on February 6 and 7, with our Children’s Theatre Workshop following close after
Don’t Hug Me. For further information about the group and details about these upcoming productions,
please follow Watertown Players Inc. on Facebook and Instagram or email us at
