Register today to prepare youth for safe operations

WATERTOWN, Wis. — Madison College Watertown is offering a Youth Tractor Safety course beginning March 7.

Classes meet on March 7, 14, 28, April 11, 18, 2026 at Lake Mills High School. Testing is on Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is S150. A $50 scholarship is available to participants who successfully complete the course.

This course, for 12-16-year-olds, provides the requirements to be certified for compliance under Wisconsin Act 455 to operate tractors or self-propelled machinery for their own family on public roads. It also meets the U.S. Department of Labor requirements for youth ages 14-15 employed on a farm other than their family farm.

“This course responds to community needs and helps ensure young people have the skills to operate farm equipment safely and responsibly,” says Chelsey Bauer, Madison College Watertown Campus Operations Manager. “Agriculture is a vital part of Wisconsin’s economy, and this training supports both youth safety and workforce readiness.”

Instruction includes safe operation of tractors and farm machinery, maintenance and safety checks, hazard recognition and correction, general farm safety knowledge, and tractor driving skills test. Students must attend all class sessions to be eligible for certification.

Find more information and enroll on the Madison College Watertown webpage or contact the college at 920 206 8000 or wttnoffice@madisoncollege.edu
