Every week in Jefferson County, someone hears the words no one wants to hear: “You have cancer.” In that moment, life tilts. Families focus on treatments, appointments, and holding onto hope, and almost immediately, the financial strain begins to build. What many people don’t realize is how quickly the costs pile up. Even with solid insurance, families often find themselves in an overwhelming place.
That’s exactly why the Jefferson County Cancer Coalition (JCOCC) exists.
For more than a decade, we’ve made it our mission to step in when local families need us most. Since 2013, we’ve been honored to stand beside hundreds of neighbors navigating the hardest chapter of their lives.
This past year, JCOCC provided over $300,000 in direct financial assistance to families right here in Jefferson County.
The need continues to grow. As more families reach out, we are determined to make sure every call for help is met with compassion and with action. That’s why your support matters so deeply.
What Your Support Actually Pays For
Here are the top needs we cover for families in our community:
Mortgage and Rent Payments: When treatment forces someone to miss work, keeping a roof overhead becomes a real fear. We make sure families don’t face housing insecurity on top of everything else.
Gas Cards for Treatment Travel: Many patients drive to Madison, Milwaukee, or beyond multiple times a week.
The fuel costs alone can become unmanageable and we step in to fill that gap.
Grocery Gift Cards: When income shrinks, even stocking the fridge becomes a challenge. We help ensure families have healthy meals during treatment.
Utility Bills: Heating, electric, and water bills don’t stop for cancer. We help keep homes safe, warm, and functional during months of treatment and recovery.

In 2026, we will once again host community events like the JCOCC Shootout, the Frosty Balls Golf Outing, and the Witches’ Ball. By choosing to sponsor one or more of these events, you’re doing far more than putting your name
on an event banner. You’re giving families breathing room. You’re reminding them that their community has not forgotten them.
JCOCC is a 100% volunteer-run organization. Every dollar you give goes directly to local families who are fighting cancer with everything they have. Your support is what allows us to say “yes” when someone applies asking for help with rent, groceries, or simply keeping the lights on.
